Rimmel Matte Lip Velvet Apocalips Review and Swatches

Hey y’all. I’m so horrible at juggling my schedule. This week has been crazy busy for me with midterms. Get this: just today, I had an exam, a paper due, and two presentations. I’ve (again) been a little MIA and it’s killing me!

Anyway, I recently picked up these Rimmel Matte Lip Velvet Apocalips in three shades. I got mine at Meijer where they were having a BOGO 1/2 Off on all Rimmel products, so I got three colors and one foundation. I got (from left to right in the picture below) Atomic Rose, a peachy pink nude (which pulls more peach on my skintone), Meteoric Matte, a rich berry color that is my favorite of the bunch, and Burning Lava, a bright cooler-toned red.

The formula of these reminds me of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams – they are very creamy and pigmented – but I find that they don’t last as long. I get about 3-4 hours of wear out of these before they start to 1. get that gross flakey effect, 2. wear off in the center of my mouth, and 3. feather a little bit around the edges (you can see this in my hand swatches). Another thing is that I don’t think they dry to a true matte, like the NYX ones, which also means that they aren’t as drying or uncomfortable on the lips.

If any of you have tried the original Apocalips (which I loved), you know about the applicator. It’s like a doe-foot applicator but it has a little indent in the center. I really don’t like this because I find it doesn’t do its job; it doesn’t deposit any more color where you need it and it just seems unnecessary. There is a little bit of a scent (not overpowering, in my opinion), but I’m not even going to try to describe it. No clue.

Overall, I like these because they are really pigmented and they don’t make my lips feel overly dry like other matte lip products. However, the lasting power is limited so if you’re concerned about that, I would check out the Rimmel Provocalips!

Where I’ve Been (and FOTD feat. Venus palette)

It’s been nearly a week since I last posted. I can explain.

Everything was going fine, then I got a hint of a sore throat on Tuesday night. Which then apparently developed into strep throat on Wednesday. If you’ve ever had strep, YOU KNOW. It’s absolutely awful. I literally could. not. move. So that’s my excuse.

I’m on antibiotics now, so I feel 1000% better.

Here’s my makeup today. I used the Limecrime Venus Palette, which apparently has been sold out forever (I got it in the first batch when they initially released it). This palette is beautiful and it really goes along with the whole “color of the year” dealio.

Also, this is the first time that I’ve ever used gel/creme eyeliner. Like, where the heck was I?! I’m a fan. This is the Black Radiance creme eyeliner, which is like $4 for 0.16 oz of product, compared to the Maybelline gel eyeliner which runs about $9 for 0.106 oz of product, sooooo… I still would like to try another brand but this was cheap so I thought if I hated it, I wouldn’t be out much!

OH! And, this is a new foundation that I’m trying out. I applied it with my fingers mostly because I’m too lazy to use a brush, but so far so good (but I still prefer my Revlon Colorstay Whipped Crème Foundation).

For the rest of my face, I used what’s shown here: the Milani Rose Powder blush in Coral Cove, the Physician’s Formula Bronzer in light, and the Physician’s Formula shimmer strips in Miami Strip for highlight. For setting it all, I use the Maybelline loose powder in light.

IMG_0060This is just the NYX Butter Gloss in tiramisu. PLEASE disregard my chapped lips… Thanks winter. Thanks for nothing!

Anyway, sorry about being MIA for the last few days!

Snapshot FOTD feat. Revealed 2

Monday, Monday. So good to me. Monday, Monday. It was all I hoped it would be!

IMG_0042

Really though, Mondays get a bad wrap! I quite enjoyed my day today (despite totally forgetting a portion of homework for one of my classes that I, come to find out, cannot make up! Oy vey!). School, work, now I’m sitting under my heated blanket with Friends on Netflix in the background, cuddling my lil pupper-poo.

I’m babbling. Here’s yet another Snapshot FOTD – I used my Coastal Scents Revealed 2 palette and a Mac pigment to create a smoky burgundy look. It didn’t translate to the camera really well and definitely looked better in person, but alas…

(Also, I’m so sorry you have to look at my stray eyebrow hairs that need to be plucked. I swear, I didn’t notice them until after I had my pictures all uploaded!)

For this look (numbered 1-20 from left to right), I used the 6th and 11th shades in my crease, the 17th shade to define the outer corner and lower lashline, and a little of the matte black shade to darken the edges. The brush shown here is my D’va Beauty S07 Pro Blender brush. On the lid, I used a brush sprayed with Mac Fix+ and the Mac Rose pigment. Glitter on the inner lower lash line is Urban Decay Heavy Metal glitter eyeliner in Baked. Inner corner and browbone highlight is the Pacifica Coconut Mineral Eyeshadow in Ethereal.

The usual stuff: eyeliner is the Revlon Colorstay liquid liner, mascara is the Jordana Best Lash Extreme, and brows are Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in soft brown.

For lips, I kept it simple – I used the L’Oreal Glossy Balm in Ginger Candy.

Hope everyone’s Monday went by fast and it was all you ever dreamed. G’night!

Side note… I’ve had to wear my glasses every day because my contacts have been killing my eyeballs, so I try so hard on my makeup and then end up covering it up with my ultra-reflective glasses. Such a bummer. What can ya do!
